How to clean the drain hose and pump of the washing machine with your own hands?

If you know how to clean the drain pump in a washing machine, a useful functional device will serve faithfully for many years. Having heard once during the washing process an unusual buzz or, having discovered that water does not escape through the hose, you should first of all think about the possibility of cleaning the pump. In any case, it will have to be removed for evaluation, sometimes the element simply fails. Even a person who is far from understanding the operation of the washing machine is able to carry out a manipulation that housewives usually try to entrust to professionals.

How to get to the pump depending on the type of machine?

No matter what type of washing machine you have to deal with, you need to stock up on a number of tools. The home foreman will need a wrench, a water collection container, a flat and Phillips screwdriver. Next, we begin to study the instructions that are attached to the unit. This is necessary at least in order to find out where the pump is located.

Depending on which model of the device you have to work with, you will have to act according to one of the following scenarios.

When the pump can be reached through the bottom of the device:

1. We find a panel or a special door that we open with a flat screwdriver. We find a self-tapping screw that holds the drain filter and unscrew it.
2. We reject the device so that all the liquid flows out of it into a previously substituted container. Turn the filter clockwise to release all remaining water.
3. Next, we turn the filter already counterclockwise, push it in and take it out through the open bottom.
4. Disconnect the hose, all wires and clamps, remove the pump.

Tip: Any procedures with a washing machine begin with two mandatory manipulations. First, disconnect the unit from the network, after which we make sure that the water supply tap is shut off.

When you have to get to the pump through the front part:

1. We take out the powder tray from the washing machine and unscrew the self-tapping screw found under it.
2. In the lower part of the device we remove the panel, gaining access to the drain filter. There we unscrew another self-tapping screw, after which we carefully remove the front panel.
3. Under it, an internal panel with additional screws is found. We unscrew them and it remains to disconnect the cuff, remove the clamp from the hatch, release the clamps.
4. After the pump is available, we drain the water, disconnect all parts, including the hose.

When we get to the pump through the back of the washing machine:

1. Unscrew the clamps securing the drain hose, disconnect it. We twist all the screws that hold the back panel and remove it.
2. We disconnect the wires, unscrew the pump, disconnect it from all the elements.

After all the procedures are completed, you can proceed to cleaning the pump. If such manipulations with the machine are carried out for the first time, then it is best to photograph all stages of the work.

Rules for cleaning a functional part

To thoroughly clean the pump, it is imperative to take care of its impeller. To remove it, you need to unscrew the screws that connect the parts of the element. In working condition, this part rotates, therefore, during the washing process, hair, threads, wool and other debris are wound on it. We remove all this, wipe the product from the inside, hoses are also recommended to be cleaned. After that, install the parts in place and assemble everything as it was.

Next, we start the operation of the washing machine in standard mode and evaluate its quality. If there is no noise, and the water drains without problems, then everything was done correctly. It happens that the manipulations do not give the desired result, then the pump or the hose leaving it must be replaced.

Prevention of clogged drain pump

Among the main reasons, after the action of which it is necessary to clean the pump or hose, the use of hard or dirty water, improperly selected detergents, and abundance on garbage products is highlighted. Compliance with a number of rules will reduce the risk of clogging of important functional elements:

1. For washing clothes, you can use only a special washing powder designed for automatic washing.
2. Things, especially those from which threads or small parts can come off, must first be placed in a bag or net.
3. Before the hose through which water enters the machine, you need to install a high-quality filter.
4. If it seems that the performance of the device has begun to decline, you need to disassemble the device in time and clean all filters and pumps.
