What to do if the washing machine stopped heating water

Poorly laundered laundry is one of the signs that the washing machine is not heating water. The reason for this is the failure of one of the parts, most likely - ten. If such a breakdown occurs, do not immediately change the tested "assistant" to a new one. Most often, troubleshooting is possible and costs much less than acquiring new equipment.

The first actions, if there is a suspicion that the water does not heat up

This malfunction is quite common and can be caused by various reasons. If the laundry has become poorly stretched, then it is either not a quality powder, or the washing machine does not heat the water. This must be verified.

• Many modern automatic machines themselves "indicate" problems. If in the tank the temperature of the solution does not correspond to the tear-out mode, then after 10-15 minutes the machine will stop and an error message will appear on the display.
• Machines that do not have such a function will go through the entire wash cycle in the “cold” mode. In order to check the water temperature, it is necessary to touch the glass carefully 15-20 minutes after starting the program (in certain modes, the temperature reaches 90 degrees). If it is cold, then the fears were true.

After making sure that the washing machine does not heat water, you should first pay attention to which washing mode is selected. On some of them, the temperature does not exceed 30 ° C. A number of models allows you to set the temperature yourself. Perhaps the error is set to low values.

The next thing to check is whether the connection to the sewage system has been broken. If the machine is connected incorrectly, it will constantly fill and drain the water, as a result of which the water simply will not have time to heat up and will remain cold.

If everything is in order with the connection, then you need to call the wizard or try to determine for yourself which blocks are faulty.

Ten's fault

The most common reason why the washing machine does not heat water is a malfunction of the heating element. Its service life is from 3 to 10 years, depending on operating conditions.

You can check the health of this part and replace the heater yourself, if you have basic knowledge of electrical engineering. Usually this part is fixed on the back of the tank, although there are models in which it is installed in front. For vertical loading machines, one of the side walls must be removed to access this part.

The testing procedure is as follows:

1. Disconnect the machine from the network (unplug the plug).
2. Remove the back (or front) wall of the housing and find a heater. It is mounted at the bottom of the tank.
3. Carefully inspect the wires extending from the heating element along the entire length. In some models, the wires run close to the walls of the case and can touch them while the machine is running. This can lead to a break in the electrical circuit - the wires can simply fray. If a broken wire is found, it must be soldered (or replaced), insulated and positioned so that it does not reach the case.
4. If the wires are in order, then it is necessary to check whether the ten is working. To do this, remove the connectors of the lead wires and the tester (setting the regulator to 200 Ohms) check the resistance at its outputs. It should be 30-60 ohms. If the arrow of the device remains motionless, then this is a clear sign that the heating element is out of order and it must be replaced.

If it is established that the water heater is faulty, do not rush to buy a new one. It is better to first remove the broken from the machine and take it with you to the store. The fact is that there are a lot of modifications of this spare part and you can buy a heater, which is not suitable for your "assistant".

How to replace a heating element

Before removing the heater, it is necessary to drain the remaining water from the tank. The easiest way to do this is to unscrew the filter (located in the lower right corner on the front side). After that, you can start dismantling the part itself:

• Disconnect suitable wires.
• Unscrew the fastening nut, but not completely, you do not need to remove it.
• Press the stud together with the fastener inward (to the nut). She often sticks and in order to get her moving, you have to knock on the hairpin. This must be done very carefully so as not to damage the tank.
• Pry off the outer plate of the heating element with a flat screwdriver or the end of a knife and remove it from its place.
• Remove ten from the tank.
• Remove visible scale deposits inside the tank, clean the footprint.

Installing a new part is carried out in the reverse order.

When tightening the fastening nut of the water heater, the main thing is not to overdo it - you can squeeze the heater into the tank. But you can’t spin too weakly - water will seep out.

The end of work field must check the operation of the heater and tightness. To do this, the machine must be turned on in the washing mode with a temperature of 60 ° C. If everything is fine, then you can mount the wall of the housing.

To ten served longer, it is necessary to clear the machine of scale. To do this, pour citric acid (100 grams) into the container for washing powder and, without laying the laundry, start in the washing mode with a temperature of 90 degrees. Such a procedure should be carried out once every two to three months.

Other reasons why the water in the SMA tank does not heat up

If after testing it is established that the water heating element is in good condition, filling and draining of water is carried out normally, but the machine erases it with cold water, then it is necessary to check the other blocks responsible for switching on the heating element. First of all, check the water heating sensor - thermostat. It is he who is responsible for turning on the water heater at the right time and turning it off after heating the water to the desired temperature.

On modern SMA, one of three types of thermostats can be installed: gas-filled, bimetallic, or thermistor. The latter is currently used most often. The thermistor is mounted directly on the water heater. Due to the fact that its resistance decreases during heating many times, it is used as a reliable and simple controller for heating water. Check this item is not difficult.

It is necessary to measure the resistance of a cold thermistor with a tester, and then after heating to 70-90 degrees. If the resistance does not change or changes slightly, then the part should be replaced. To do this, loosen the heating element mounting, pull out the thermistor from the rubber seal and install a new one in its place, then fix the water heater.

It is better to entrust the replacement of a gas-filled thermostat to specialists. If all the tested blocks turned out to be in working condition, and the water in the machine still remains cold, then this is most likely due to a malfunction of the “main brain” - the control module (SMA with electronic control) or the programmer (SMA with electromechanical control). Testing, repair or replacement of this part may only be carried out by service center specialists. Doing this yourself should not be.
