What contaminants and how can I remove with cola?

How often do you hear: "Yes, your cola dissolves rust and limestone, imagine what it will do with your stomach!". Checking whether it is really possible to remove the Pepsi stain or Coke, we will do today.

What can be cleaned?

We will not refute the cleaning properties of Coca-Cola: so many videos have been shot with experiments, both by famous TV shows and by ordinary people, that its effectiveness in removing certain types of stains is not in doubt. In what situations can a jar of this soda be better than household cleaning products?

  • Precious metals

To get rid of a raid on your favorite silver spoons or to refresh Grandma’s gold ring “Coca Cola” will help with a bang. To do this, the product must be soaked in soda for several hours (up to a day, depending on the condition of the metal), and then polished well. A clear plus here is that you do not use absolutely no abrasive, which means that the product is not scratched.

  • Other metals

Here, the use of soda varies from removing the burnout from the pan after you put the dumplings on the stove and climbed onto the Internet, until the plaque and rust from the car parts dissolve. With dishes, it is recommended to use boiling cola over low heat for an hour, and small parts are soaked in soda for a day or even several, and then wiped thoroughly from rust that has corroded.

  • Plumbing and household appliances

Limescale from hard water will ruin the reputation of even the most clean housewife. Unless, of course, you do not entrust him with a breeding stake. The same goes for scale in a teapot, which is formed for the same reason. Rubbing or boiling will help get rid of the problem quickly.

  • clothing

Cola helps with greasy stains both on clothes and, for example, on a stove, so soaking greasy stains near the burners or pouring a little cola into the washing machine when washing is a good idea. Just if you overdo it, then stains from cola can remain on the clothes, so we do not recommend washing the exit blouse in this way.

  • Glass

Washing a mirror or window with a cola is a bad idea. Then you will wash off the glass from stickiness for a long time, and in the case of such light impurities it simply does not make sense to complicate the process. But if the glass area is small, and there is a lot of dirt, such as on headlights in bad weather, then wiping them with a rag dipped in a stake is a simple improvised way to restore the brightness of lighting.

Tip

Cola leaves it sticky and can stain things - this must be taken into account before using it, especially for cleaning clothes.

Glass of cola

How it works?

Recognizing the effectiveness of cola is not enough: we want to know how it works and whether it should replace the usual household chemicals.

The secret of Coca-Cola is that this drink contains a huge amount of phosphoric and citric acids, which are not felt in the taste due to an even more impressive amount of sugar. The acidity of the drink in the end turns out to be equal to a 3% solution of vinegar, another product often used to clean various things and surfaces. At the same time, all its cleaning properties rest on pH, and there is no secret ingredient in the composition.

By the way

For the stomach, contrary to tales, cola is not more dangerous than freshly squeezed orange juice if you drink it in moderation. What constitutes a real health hazard in its composition is a huge amount of sugar. The experiments with dissolving a piece of meat in a stake do not take into account the fact that gastric juice does not cope with such substances, and the period of cola in the stomach is certainly not calculated for days, as in such experiments.

But then it turns out that the same solution of vinegar or citric acid will clean your spots no worse? Exactly. Moreover, any liquid with a similar pH level will cope with this - yes even apple juice! Does Cola have advantages now?

  • It is difficult to get natural apple or lemon juice with high acidity, because store-bought juices are not suitable for this purpose. Yes, and spending money to buy fruit and time to squeeze juice, you are unlikely to want to soak automobile parts in it.
  • Vinegar could beat Cola on our list if it weren't for its smell. Often after cleaning things with vinegar, you have to clean it again, but already in order to remove this sharp and persistent "aroma". In addition, if you have a vinegar essence that needs to be diluted, then the risk of miscalculating with the proportion and getting a very aggressive cleaning agent that can harm things is quite high.
  • But citric acid, perhaps, will still get around Coke. Judge for yourself: any concentration of the solution can be obtained, it costs a penny, it has the same properties, but you don’t have to clean the thing from the sticky sugar layer that will remain after applying cola.

You can also carry out all the steps described above with ordinary citric acid, so using cola to clean things and surfaces is a curious but not optimal way to get rid of pollution.
