Why lower the toilet lid: all about the "toilet loop" and the energy of Feng Shui

People who live according to the philosophy of Feng Shui lift the lid of the toilet with caution and only when you have to use it for its intended purpose. Indeed, in the white bowl of sanitary ware there are not only terrible microbes from the Domestos advertisement, but also something worse - the negative energy of Sha, which can deprive you of peace, wealth and prosperity. To keep this dirty trick, closer to the sewers, enlightened Taoists advise closing the toilet lid as soon as possible.

For their part, microbiologists decided to investigate the toilet threat back in 1975. It is unlikely that they and feng shui adherents spoke about the same thing, but scientists from Texas described the phenomenon of a “toilet loop” that threatens the health of those who press the drain button without lowering the toilet lid.

Why do I need a lid?

What did people use before the invention of toilets? Someone with bushes and mugs, someone with a hole above the pit, someone with pots at night. For obvious reasons, the pots had lids: no one would want to spread toilet “aromas” throughout the room.

The cover of a modern toilet is needed for two things:

  • to control odor;
  • to deter splash when draining.

Smells in this case are not the same as before. Thanks to the siphon design, the entire “ballast” immediately falls into the water, which prevents it from spreading stench. And then it is completely washed off into the sewer. But when you decide to clean the toilet with something vigorous, smelling of bleach, the lid will be very handy - it will save your apartment from the smell of a Soviet infectious diseases hospital.

The study of the microbiological environment in the toilet

"Toilet train" and microbiologists

When dentists convince us to disinfect and change toothbrushes in time, they like to mention the shocking fact: if you look under the microscope with an old brush, it will be possible to detect not only colonies of bacteria, but also particles of feces. Where are they from?

The answer was given by the same American microbiologists. To find out how far the toilet microflora is ready to go, they organized an experiment: they poured phosphating liquid into the toilet and, without closing the lid, simply pressed the drain button. The thing was done in a dark bathroom - not for more drama, but in order to use the ultraviolet lamp to find traces of spray on nearby surfaces.

Microbes did not disappoint - when flushing with the smallest droplets of water, they spread from the toilet bowl in a couple of seconds in a radius of two meters. So they ended up on a toothbrush along with "nanofecals" (here's the obvious minus of the combined bathroom).

Texas scientists called this phenomenon a “toilet loop”. The experiment is good for its simplicity and visibility: it is unlikely that anyone will argue that the toilet lid is still better to lower.

Well, what about the negative energy? In the minds of impressionable housewives, everything was mixed up: some say about Feng Shui, others talk about folk signs of the post-Soviet space (if you leave the toilet open, there will be no money).

Well, in this case, superstition does not contradict common sense. In the toilet room, you first need to monitor two things:

  • for cleanliness;
  • for hygiene.

If you believe that this, moreover, will lead you to harmony and wealth - why not? In any business, the main thing is a positive attitude. But when you fight with your family, convincing them to lower the toilet lid, it’s better to tell them about microbes: as you know, not everyone is ready for Feng Shui.

    Thank you very much for the info about the toilet loop. There was always a “for” combined bathroom. Now always close the toilet lid. The information is very useful.
