How to correctly replace a light bulb in a lamp, chandelier or ceiling

If the lamp burns out in home lighting devices and needs to be replaced, then first of all, you should buy a new one. It is necessary to install a lamp of the same power and of the same type.

The following type of light source can be used for lighting:

  1. Incandescent lamp.
  2. Energy saving or fluorescent lamp.
  3. Halogen.
  4. LED light.

The lamps installed in the luminaires have limitations on the maximum power. This is usually 40 watts. It is impossible to exceed this value, as the cartridges and wiring in the lamp may fail.

Having found out what type and power of a burnt out light source in a chandelier or ceiling, it is necessary to clarify the type of base, after which you can purchase a new light bulb. If there are difficulties in determining the parameters of a burnt bulb, you can simply dismantle it and take it with you to the store as a sample.

Then you can proceed with the replacement. Before work, it is advisable to wear safety glasses and gloves.

  • Switch off the device. To do this, turn off the machine on the shield or unscrew the plugs. If it is a table or wall lamp - just unplug the plug from the outlet.
  • To replace a light bulb in a chandelier or ceiling light, you need a stable stepladder or chair.
  • Remove the bulb and install a new one in its place.

If the bulb turned out to burst or crumble when unscrewed, the remaining part of the incandescent lamp can be turned out of the cartridge by grasping the edge of the base with pliers or pliers.

When replacing an incandescent lamp in a chandelier hanging above your head, you cannot look at it. This will protect your eyes from splinters if the bulb bursts. In order not to accidentally cut your hands, you need to work with gloves or wrap the lamp with a napkin.

If an energy-saving light bulb is installed in the ceiling, then it must be unscrewed, holding the base, and not by the fragile glass tubes, which can easily break off. Inside these light sources are pairs of mercury compounds that are very unhealthy.

When replacing halogen lamps, they must not be taken with bare hands. Fatty fingerprints will cause local overheating of the bulb and its destruction. Therefore, gloves must be worn before work.

Halogen lamp

Moisture-proof fixtures are usually installed in the bathroom. When dismantling the lampshade, care must be taken not to damage the insulating elements. It is necessary to provide a place where during operation it will be possible to put the removed cover and tools. After replacing a burned-out bulb, the lampshade is put in place so that vapors and moisture cannot get inside the device.

How to replace a light bulb in a suspended or suspended ceiling

How to change a light bulb in a suspended ceiling, if it is equipped with spotlights? Replacing the light source in them requires accuracy and certain skills. This is especially important when working with tools, if the lamp needs to be replaced in a stretch ceiling. One awkward movement can damage the stretched fabric. To replace a burned out lamp:

  • Turn off the electricity in the room.
  • Remove the retaining ring holding the lamp in the lampshade from the fixture and put it so that it is at hand.
  • Carefully disconnect the burned out lamp. Depending on the model of the cap, it can be screwed into the cartridge, fixed with side pins (turning 90 degrees) or have pin contacts.
  • If before that it was not known which lamp model is used in the fixtures, then you need to take the burned light source with you to the store as a sample and buy the same new one.
  • Install a new bulb in the socket, place in the socket and secure with the ring.

Since halogen light sources are usually installed in spotlights, work with gloves on so as not to leave traces of imprints on the lamps.

How to replace a light bulb in a cooker hood

If in the hood in the kitchen the backlight stopped working, and the fan turns on normally, then most likely the lamp burned out. Replacing it is easy on your own. First of all, it is necessary to completely disconnect the hood by pulling the plug out of the socket. Depending on the model, access to the lamp can be obtained by removing the air intake grille or by opening a special cover on the body.

cooker hood

Then everything is simple - to dismantle the faulty light bulb, and put a new one of the same type and power in its place. After that, you need to connect the current and check the lighting.

It is impossible to install a light bulb of a different marking and power in the hood, as it can damage the wiring or simply will not work.

How to replace a light bulb in a refrigerator

If the lighting disappeared in the refrigerator, and the engine is working properly, then most likely the lamp burned out. Knowing how to replace a blown bulb, you can do it yourself without contacting the repair service. Lamps can be located in different places in the refrigerator - on the side or back wall, in the upper part or in the middle of the chamber. But, in any case, access is provided to them. Before starting work, you must turn off the refrigerator and unplug the plug.

The simplest change is the lamp in the Veko refrigerator. A 15-watt bulb with an E14 cap is screwed into the cartridge located next to the switch. You just need to unscrew the faulty light source, and install a new one in its place.

lamp for fridge

It is not much more difficult to replace the light source in the Biryusa refrigerator. To replace a burned-out lamp in a Biryusa refrigerator, you must:

  1. Disconnect it from the network.
  2. Open the door of the refrigerator.
  3. Most modifications of Biryusa refrigerated cabinets have a box with a cooling regulator on the right side wall. On the back side, a lampshade with a lamp is fixed to it. The lampshade should be gently squeezed laterally (to release the latches) and removed.
  4. Unscrew the burned out bulb and install a new one in its place.
  5. Replace the cover.

In some models of Biryusa refrigerators, an LED unit (Biryusa-10) is used as a light source. To dismantle it, you need to remove the cover from the block, unscrew the two self-tapping screws, remove the block with the shade, disconnect the contacts. A new light source is installed in the Biryusa-10 refrigerator in the reverse order.

In Samsung refrigerators for different models, the cover is removed in different ways. So at “Samsung” RL series (38 **, 41 **, 44 **) it is fastened on latches, and to remove it, you just need to press on the sides and pull it towards you.

In other versions of Samsung, the cover is fixed with a screw, which must be unscrewed. If there is a protective housing under the ceiling, unscrew the fixing screws and remove it. Disconnect the wires. If there is a protective tape, then it must also be removed. After that, instead of a faulty bulb, a new one is installed.

Changing the light source in the Indesit refrigerator is not very difficult, but care must be taken. The fact is that in most Indesit models, the ceiling is not completely removed, but part of it is unbent, allowing access to the light source. To gain access to the lamp, it is necessary to unscrew the fixing screw and bend the desired half (according to the instructions). The burned bulb in the Ariston refrigerated cabinets changes similarly. But on some modifications (for example, “Indesit C138G”), the plafond is removable and fastens on latches. To dismantle it, you must click on the upper and lower walls.

Replacing a light bulb in an Atlant refrigerator

Atlant refrigerators also use an incandescent lamp for illumination. To properly dismantle the ceiling, manufacturers put on the wall, next to it an arrow. The replacement of the light source in all Atlant modifications is carried out as follows:

  1. Disconnect the refrigerator by pulling the plug out of the socket.
  2. Unscrew fixing cover screw.
  3. Without applying much effort, move the ceiling to the side indicated by the arrow on the inner wall of the Atlant refrigerator.
  4. Replace a burned out lamp.
  5. Replace the cover.

In Atlant refrigerated cabinets, you can replace an incandescent lamp with a more durable one - LED. For comfortable lighting of the refrigerator, such a light source will have enough power of 3-5 watts. In addition, LED bulbs practically do not heat up.

You can use LED light sources to illuminate cameras not only in Atlant refrigerators, but also in devices of other manufacturers, if incandescent lamps are installed in them, operating from a 220 V mains.

A halogen or energy-saving light bulb is not used in refrigerated cabinets.

How to replace a light bulb in a microwave

Most modern microwave ovens are backlit. If the light bulb in the microwave burns out, this will not affect its performance, but it is still more convenient to use it when the lighting is working. Not everyone knows how to replace a light bulb in this kitchen technique without resorting to the help of specialists. For work you will need a Phillips screwdriver and a little skill. The procedure is as follows:

  • Disconnect the device completely by pulling the plug out of the socket.
  • Carefully inspect your "assistant". It is necessary to find and unscrew the screws that secure the housing cover (it usually has a U-shape and covers the side and top of the device). Mounts can be located on the back or sides (less commonly on the front or bottom).
  • Carefully remove the cover. Usually it needs to be slightly moved back, and then lifted up.
  • Determine the location of the bulb. In some models, it is placed in a special box secured with a screw. Inside is a cartridge with a light source that needs to be replaced. In other models, the cartridge itself is inserted into a special hole with the lamp, and the outside is fixed with one or two self-tapping screws. Taking out the cartridge, you can easily replace the faulty light bulb.
  • Replace the cartridge or box with the lamp and secure them correctly.
  • Close the housing cover and fasten with screws.
  • Plug in and check how the lighting works in the microwave.

Replacing the light bulb in the microwave

It is better to purchase a light bulb after the burned-out lamp has been dismantled according to its sample, since it is difficult to determine in another way which light source is installed in the microwave.

Replacing the light bulb in the oven

In the oven, you can change the backlight yourself even during the warranty period. The backlight can be located in the oven on the side or on the back wall (depending on the model). The bulb can be covered with a round or rectangular glass lid.

light bulb in the oven

The replacement of the light source in the oven is carried out in the following order:

  • Unplug the oven. If it is hot, wait until it cools completely.
  • Cover the bottom with a cloth or towel. If the bulb or glass cap is accidentally dropped, they will not break.
  • If the bulb is covered with a round cap, then it must be unscrewed by turning counterclockwise. Then remove the metal and sealing rings.
  • If the light source is closed by a rectangular cover, then a flat object (a screwdriver or the tip of a knife) must be inserted into the groove on the upper part and, turning it up, push out the glass plate.
  • Replace the bulb in the socket.
  • Close the hole with a shade. Round - screw, after putting on the rings. Rectangular - insert the lower edge, and then, slightly pressing the upper part, snap it into place.

Only heat-resistant bulbs designed for temperatures up to 300 ° C can be installed in the oven.

If a halogen lamp is used in the oven for illumination, then fingerprints should not be left on it. You must work either with gloves or wrap the bulb in a dry cloth. The soiled places should be wiped with a cloth soaked in alcohol.

Disposal of used lamps

The easiest way to dispose of incandescent bulbs. They are made of glass and metal. There are no substances harmful to the environment. Therefore, they can simply be thrown into a garbage container.

Similarly, you can do with LED light sources.

Halogen lamps contain a small amount of halogen and halogen compounds in the bulb. But they do not pose a danger to living organisms and the environment in case of destruction of the flask.

Energy-saving lamps

Flasks of fluorescent lamps contain mercury or its compounds belonging to the 1st class of toxic substances (“extremely dangerous”). They must not be thrown into garbage containers. Failure of luminescent light sources must be taken to public utilities or to special collection points, where they must be accepted and disposed of free of charge in accordance with sanitary standards.

Energy-saving lamps are a form of fluorescent light sources. They must also be disposed of by appropriate organizations.
