How and by what means can tiles and porcelain tiles be washed after repair?

The joy of the completion of repairs in the bathroom and in the kitchen is overshadowed by the need to remove all construction debris and dust left after work.

Types of pollution

What can get on the tile and porcelain in the repair process:

  • cement;
  • sealant;
  • paints;
  • polyurethane foam;
  • gypsum;
  • putty;
  • plaster;
  • tile glue;
  • primer;
  • grout for tile seams.

Almost always, these substances and building mixtures can be removed from the surface of the tile simply with a damp cloth, if you do it in fresh wake until they have time to harden. Old stains are much more difficult to remove.

To remove all these contaminants remaining after the repair, there are specialized household cleaning products. But, as a rule, you can get by with simpler and cheaper folk methods. It will be easiest to wash a glossy flat surface. If the porcelain stoneware is matte, porous or with a small relief, then the dust can penetrate deep into it, and it will not be easy to completely remove it.

How to wash porcelain tiles?

If the craftsmen worked neatly and removed all impurities in a fresh wake, then cleaning after repair will not cause any special problems. Only construction dust will have to be washed. To begin with, it will be necessary to collect large garbage and sweep the tile. But from fine dust that cannot be removed with a broom, it is enough to wipe the tile with water, into which you can add any mild detergent, soap, toothpaste or powder. The used rag or sponge should be often rinsed in water, the tile should be washed several times, and at the end it is better to wipe it dry so that there are no stains on the tile.

But there are other means.

  • It is good to wash the tiles and at the same time dispense with stains will help alcohol-containing sprays for windows.
  • Water with the addition of juice or lemon essential oil cleans the surface well, and also gives it a luster and a pleasant aroma.
  • You can also achieve tile shine by wiping it with an aqueous solution of vinegar.
  • It polishes and cleans the glossy tiled surface well with ordinary felt.

Tip

It is recommended that any aggressive cleaning agent be checked for its effectiveness and safety for porcelain stoneware somewhere in an inconspicuous place and only after that try to wash the entire room with it.

Remove dried mortar

You can try to remove any such substances from the surface of porcelain tiles mechanically - with some sharp object, a construction grater or sandpaper. However, there is a risk of damaging the glazed coating of the tile, so it is better to resort to alternative methods.

  1. It is recommended to pre-soak tile glue if possible by putting a damp cloth on it, and only then try to wipe it off. For polymer adhesives, the rag is moistened with solutions of vinegar, ammonia or acetone. Only solvent is truly effective against epoxy glue, folk remedies are unlikely to help.
  2. Clumps of cement, putty, etc., which adhere to the floor during repairs, are also well removed mechanically. They can be scratched with a knife, old scissors, a metal or plastic spatula. Large pieces are easily separated from the granite even by hand.
  3. But paint is much more difficult to scrape off. It is better to dissolve with substances designed specifically for this type of paint. Aqueous emulsion dyes are easily removed with a damp cloth, while acrylic and oil dyes can be easily removed with solvents such as White Spirit.If the stain is old enough and does not rub off the first time, it is recommended to put a cloth dampened with solvent on it for a while.
  4. Soaking the grout after repair will help to wet the tiles before rubbing the tile joints. In addition, it can be removed much more easily from a tile with a smooth surface. At first, you should try to remove the stuck-in grout simply with a damp cloth or a hard sponge, and if this does not help, use any acid-containing liquids and powders. It can be both household chemicals and self-prepared acid solutions. But on some types of tiles, for example, having a metallized surface, such products can leave bright spots.
  5. Whitewashing is removed from porcelain stoneware in several stages. To begin with, it is rinsed abundantly with water, then rubbed off particularly contaminated areas with a sponge and detergent, and then thoroughly rinsed it off.

If the glaze of the tile is thick enough, then without fear for its integrity, you can use any abrasive detergents and even ordinary soda. They are effective even against stubborn pollution, because they act mechanically.

When choosing a cleaning agent for cleaning, it should be remembered that all solvents, acidic, alkaline or chlorine-containing preparations are very aggressive to the skin, so you need to work with them in gloves and covered clothes.
