How to attach roller blinds to plastic windows?

Today in our country, roller blinds or roller blinds are becoming increasingly popular. Hanging them on plastic windows is very simple, but since this is a relatively new type of window curtains, not everyone knows what methods exist for this. Compare the two most popular options (fastening on self-tapping screws and double-sided tape) and figure out which set of tools you need to work.

Mounting Requirements

Before you begin to compare the methods of fastening, it is necessary to develop certain universal requirements that can be applied to any model of curtains and to any fasteners.

Here are the properties that a roller shutter mount should provide:

  • Reliability. Under no circumstances should the curtains fixed to the window frame, wall or ceiling break or fall. After all, a falling structure can scare a person nearby, cause injury to him, cause material damage (for example, knocking down a flower pot on the floor).
  • Convenience of operation. A fixed curtain should not impede attempts to open a window for ventilation or to water indoor flowers standing on a window sill. Also, shutters should be easy to open and close using the mechanisms available in the design (cord, chain, etc.).
  • Possibility of dismantling if necessary. Before you hang the curtains, think about what will remain in their place after they are removed for replacement. It is highly undesirable to choose mounting methods, after which rough holes or other hard-to-mask traces remain on the frame or wall.

Safety of fastening becomes especially important if there will be pets or small children in the room. The child will certainly want to pull the hanging cords, and the cat will try to climb higher on the curtain. It is important that the curtain does not fall and the cord does not cause injury or suffocation.

Focusing on these requirements, we will consider the main ways of attaching roller blinds to plastic windows and choose the best option.

Methods for attaching roller blinds

The main methods and their advantages

Despite the similar design of all models of roller blinds, there are noticeable differences between them. Therefore, before choosing a specific method of attachment, it is worth studying the acquired roleta.

Here are the main points that classify such designs:

  • Length. The canvas is selected so as to hide the window sill or leave the possibility of its use.
  • Web material. Not only its ability to reflect sunlight, but also the total weight of the structure depends on the density of the material. The denser the web, the greater the total weight.
  • Design features. If the Mini and Classic types are set at the top of the window, then the Mix type seems to be upside down. Its roll is installed in the lower part, and fastening, as a rule, is done directly to the frame.

Roll structures are perfectly combined with other types of curtains and can be only part of the window decor. Of course, in this case, the installation is complicated, as additional calculations are required so that all elements do not interfere with each other.

As a rule, the roleta kit includes everything you need in order to attach it to the wall and prepare for use. But before starting the installation, it is necessary to carefully check the completeness. It’s better to immediately find out that something is missing and go to the store for the missing details than to spend time on futile improvisations.

Roll structures can be attached in different ways:

  • to the window opening (vertical or horizontal slope);
  • to the wall;
  • to the ceiling;
  • directly to the window frame.

The latter option is considered the most convenient - this installation method does not interfere with opening the wings and gives the window a modern look. However, it is somewhat more time-consuming, since it is necessary to attach a separate shutter to each wing.

In any case, the fasteners are either self-tapping screws or double-sided tape.

Fastening brackets to screws

Self-tapping

A reliable way of attaching to a window opening, wall or ceiling. As a rule, a bracket with a spring latch is attached to the wall with screws. Such brackets are made of metal or plastic. The roleta itself is inserted into the bracket and latched.

The advantage of the method is the high reliability of the mount. This technology is recommended for heavy models of metal with a dense canvas.

Before mounting the brackets, it is worth evaluating the quality of the self-tapping screws in the kit and, if necessary, replacing them with long bolts made of durable steel alloy.

The disadvantage of this method is that you need a hammer drill and some skills to work with it.

The option of fastening with screws to a plastic frame is also possible. So fasten brackets for constructions like Mini. This technology is much simpler, however, holes remain in the plastic that will be noticeable after dismantling the curtains.

Attachment for roller blinds on double-sided tape

Double-sided tape: the pros and cons

A tape with adhesive applied on both sides is the best option for those who do not want to mess with self-tapping screws. You just need to cut out the squares of the desired size and stick them on the brackets. Then peel off the protective film from the second side and firmly glue the bracket to the plastic frame.

The main disadvantage of the method is the not very high reliability of fastening. But for light models made of plastic, such fasteners will be quite enough. The second drawback - after peeling off the brackets on the frames there will be traces of glue. But they are easy to remove with a special cleaning fluid.

If there is no special composition at hand, vegetable oil is used to wipe off glue stains.

We fasten the curtains on the screws

Before attaching the blinds to the screws, it is necessary to carefully measure the position of each hole. First of all, you need to accurately measure the width. If the brackets are placed on the frame itself, then 20-30 mm is added to the frame width. If you plan to attach the brackets to the window opening, they take 20-50 mm from the measured width.

Before starting work, you should prepare the tool and check its serviceability:

  • For measuring and marking - pencil, tape measure, level (a bubble type construction tool is suitable). If there is a laser level, marking will become easier, but you can do without this device.
  • For drilling holes - electric drill.
  • To tighten the screws - a screwdriver with a cross tip or a screwdriver.
  • If necessary, use a construction knife to trim the components.

Self-tapping screws and the rest of the fasteners are usually included.

Instructions for fixing the roller blinds with screws:

  1. First of all, precisely determine the position of each hole. To do this, the assembled system is applied to the mounting location, marking each hole with a pencil. To hang the roller blind strictly horizontally, check its position by level. At the markup stage, an assistant is needed to hold the assembled curtain. But if you have to perform the installation alone, double-sided tape will help (the brackets are temporarily fixed to them).
  2. Measure the desired length of the guide line. It is threaded into place, cut off excess with a construction knife.
  3. Drill holes for all screws.
  4. Screw the brackets into place. If you plan to fix them directly on the frame, then the screws are selected so as not to damage the glass.
  5. A roll is attached to the brackets screwed into place.
  6. Attach magnetic clamps to the bottom of the frame to tension the web.

It remains to check all parts of the mechanism to make sure that the curtain closes normally and does not interfere with opening the window. If everything is in order, it remains to put in place the decorative elements (bracket covers, box for a roll, etc.).

If the curtain is attached not to the frame, but to the ceiling or walls, special clamps will be needed. Such fastening is used for heavy constructions of closed type (Classic models). The algorithm changes insignificantly: first, clips are attached to the place, and then a roleta is attached to them.

It is better to take aluminum clips: they are more reliable than plastic ones.

Fasten the curtain to double-sided tape

Working with double-sided tape is even easier:

  1. The location of all brackets is also carefully measured.
  2. Then, squares of the desired size are cut out of the adhesive tape and glued to the brackets. On some models, the brackets are still factory supplied with an adhesive layer protected by a paper sheet or plastic film.
  3. Fat and other contaminants are thoroughly washed off the frame. A solvent that does not destroy plastic is suitable for this.
  4. Protective substrates peel off and fix the brackets in place. After that, the assembly and configuration of the system.

There is nothing complicated in fixing roller blinds to plastic frames. Of course, if you still have doubts, you can invite a specialist to complete the installation. But most people quite successfully cope with this work, even performing it for the first time. We hope that our tips will help you!
