The best ways to mask the space under the bathroom - which one to choose, so as not to miscalculate?

The design of the space under the bathroom became a stumbling block between me and my husband when we decided to make repairs. I insisted on rational options, since the area of our bathroom does not allow us to scatter square centimeters. And the husband wanted it to be beautiful, albeit impractical. Then we began to recall the ideas that were implemented in all the houses and apartments where we (together or separately) had a chance to live before. We will share with you our impression of various methods of disguising the bathroom legs and sewer pipes.

Sun blind

Curtain

This still hangs in my grandmother's house. Moreover, I made it with my own hands and attached them to the side of the bathroom. If you want to quickly and inexpensively do the same for yourself, I share the guide to action:

  1. You will need to find a piece of rubberized matter. You can buy it “per meter” in any fabric store or do it even easier - take an ordinary shower curtain and shorten to the desired length.
  2. Stitch the top, bottom, and edges to make the product look neat.
  3. All in the same fabric store to buy small hooks (those for the walls, not for clothes) and rings for the carpet. Find a transparent silicone sealant in the construction department of the supermarket. Sew the rings to the curtain in the direction along the fabric. Glue the hooks with sealant to the side of the bathroom so that they are not visible from the outside. The distance between the hooks should correspond to the distance between the rings.
  4. Hang the curtain by slipping the rings on the hooks.

This method is convenient, cheap, practical and simple. In addition, the curtain fits perfectly into any interior - just pick the right pattern and color of the fabric.

True, it is desirable to have two sets of curtains so that the bathtub does not look naked at the time when its “robe” goes to the laundry.

Podium under the bath

Podium

My cousin once fell in love with such a disguise. He saw him on one of the forums dedicated to design and interior, and immediately got excited about the idea. He did everything himself, starting with the development of the project and ending with finishing work. It turned out quite not bad - later acquaintances asked to repeat the masterpiece already in their apartments.

The essence of the podium is that the screen closes not only the space under the bath, but also the space on the sides. On the shelf, which is formed on the side, you can sit, lie down, arrange bottles and tubes with care products or candles and glasses with champagne.

This method is categorically not suitable for rooms with a small area, and this is its only drawback. Do you already know how my bathroom will look if I ever become the owner of a spacious mansion?

Screen with sunroof under the bathtub

Screen

With this method of masking the space under the bathroom, my husband and I faced many times and in different ways. All of them were good in their own way:

    • Screen with sliding doors. In the tiny apartment, which I rented only in order to have a separate bathroom (and not shared, as in all student dormitories), there was the same tiny bathroom. Therefore, the screen with the compartment doors made it possible without any problems to access the treasures (detergents and other cleaning tools) that were stored on the shelves behind these very doors. I think that all owners of short films would appreciate this way of saving space.

    • Screen with swing doors. It looks stylish and expensive, especially if you tastefully select accessories. However, it is absolutely unsuitable for small rooms - when opening the doors constantly hit the sink, shelving, washing machine or anything else. And even completely open only half.

    • Screen mirror. This was installed in a hotel where we stayed while traveling in Switzerland. When the button was pressed, the mirror panels moved smoothly, opening shelves with towels and hygiene products. The option is clearly not cheap, but visually increases the size of the bathroom and gives you the opportunity to admire your beautiful legs in plenty. Maybe the hell with rationalism? I want just such a screen!

    • Full screen. For her husband’s parents, the space under the bathroom is designed exactly like that - tightly sewn with tiles. In places where access to the siphon and counters is needed, inspection hatches are cut out. In principle, convenient, beautiful, no frills and made for centuries.

Chest of drawers

Once my husband went on a business trip and, settling in an apartment rented for him, immediately began to bomb me with photos of the bathroom. And more precisely, parts of the bathroom.

His attention was attracted by the bathtub, decorated in a very non-standard and interesting way - the space under it was stylized as a chest of drawers (or a bedside table, there is someone who sees it). Some of the shelves were open, another part of the place was occupied by drawers.

Shelves under the bathroom

In a modern minimalist interior, this option looks very organic and fresh, especially if the panels from which the chest of drawers are assembled are painted in white or another light color. It’s only a pity that I’m not a fan of minimalism.

And which of these options for masking the space under the bathroom would you choose? And why? Nevertheless, I am inclined towards a screen with sliding doors - it will most likely be able to satisfy both my desire to use the entire area of the bathroom and the husband’s desire for aesthetics (it all depends on what finishing materials will be used).

The mirror version and the chest of drawers, for the first time I see these and even nothing. It's beautiful and rational (especially the chest of drawers). It is a pity that you can’t do this to yourself.
