How to remove the mounting foam from your skin

When working with polyurethane foam, even the most experienced craftsmen using personal protective equipment can get dirty. For those who work with this tool for the first time, the foam will surely fall into their hands. But not everyone knows how to remove it from the skin.

To avoid getting foam on your hands, you need to work with this material in protective gloves. But even when using workwear, it sometimes gets on the skin and you have to decide how to wash the mounting foam from your hands.

Some sources suggest that before work, generously lubricate the hands with Vaseline or a fat cream, to which the foam does not adhere well, and it will not be difficult to remove it. But nowhere is it described how convenient it is when all the tools slip out of the hands, and how difficult it is to clean everything that was taken and touched with greasy hands.

Liquid construction foam removal methods

If mounting foam gets on your skin, try to remove it as soon as possible. In no case should you smear this product on the arm. We must try to remove the pollution with a clean cloth or cloth, moving the mass to the center of the spot. Residues should be washed off. But this must be done before the composition hardens.

mounting foam

There are several ways to wash the mounting foam from your hands:

  • Before starting work, it is advisable to stock up with a special aerosol solvent. Ideally, it should be the same manufacturer as the foam can. Aerosol is applied to a contaminated place, and then washed off with plenty of water. Such solvents usually cope well with liquid foam, but are powerless before hardened.
  • Uncured mass can be removed with an acetone-based solvent. Using a towel dampened with solvent, you must quickly but thoroughly wipe the foam, and then wash your hands well with soap.
  • This sealant is easy to rinse with kerosene. If none of the above appears, then you can try to remove this sealant from the skin with improvised means that are always available at home.
  • You can wipe off the foam well with a cloth moistened with slightly warmed vegetable oil. This tool is harmless to the body. If you have patience and hold the oil in a contaminated place for 20-30 minutes, then it can remove even the remnants of the frozen foam.
  • It’s good enough to clean your hands from traces of sealant will help ordinary table salt. It is necessary to gently rub the contaminated places with it, and then wash your hands with soap.
  • On the Internet, there is a recommendation to use the drug "Dimexidum". Indeed, this drug dissolves building foam well, but you can not use it to clean your hands! "Dimexide" is well absorbed and through the skin into the human body. Like any medicine, it has a side effect and its administration without the appointment and control of a doctor is extremely undesirable.

With this tool, you can clean the walls and furniture, or remove drops of foam from the floor.

How to get rid of a frozen mass

If immediately after getting on hands the foam did not manage to be cleaned, then it will harden. To cope with a frozen mass is much more difficult, since the solvents no longer act on it (as warned by the instructions for use). In this case, skin can be cleaned of contamination only by mechanical action. To do this, you must:

  1. Lubricate the stained areas with cream or sunflower oil. This will somewhat soften the effect on the skin during the removal of the foam.
  2. Abundantly lather pumice or hard brush.
  3. Trying to injure the skin as near as possible as little as possible, gently, without rushing, clean off the hardened mixture.

To achieve greater effect, hands can be pre-steamed in hot water for 10 minutes before cleaning.

After these procedures are completed, it is advisable to lubricate the skin with oily cream.

Useful Tips

If for one reason or another it was not possible to cope with the traces of construction foam in your hands, then you do not need to worry much. After a few days, the contamination itself will peel off from the skin, as the skin cells are constantly updated.

Do not use substances containing alkalis or acids (acetic acid, Domestos, etc.) to combat such stains. They can’t cope with the traces of sealant, and burns on the hands can remain for a long time.

During the cleaning of hands from the foam in any way they are affected by chemical or physical means. Therefore, after the procedure, it is worth taking care of the skin. Hands should be greased with a nourishing cream. It is desirable that it possesses regenerative and antiseptic properties (for example, with aloe juice or ginseng).

  • Be sure to wear gloves and safety glasses.
  • Clothing should be used in such a way that it is not a pity to throw it away, because it is unlikely that it will be possible to remove the frozen composition.
  • Be sure to wear a hat. Most often, you can remove foam from the hair only with the hair.
  • Covering materials for furniture and flooring also need to choose a disposable (cardboard, plastic films).
  • Special cleansers, which can be purchased with mounting foam, will also be useful. They can easily wipe away random spots.
